Overview

Telaprevir + sofosbuvir is a combination of two direct acting antiviral (DAA) agents used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Telaprevir is an NS3/4A serine protease inhibitor that blocks viral replication by inhibiting the cleavage of HCV polyproteins into mature proteins necessary for viral replication[2][5]. Sofosbuvir is a nucleotide analog inhibitor targeting the HCV NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, acting as a chain terminator to prevent further synthesis of viral RNA[6]. Both drugs are used as part of combination regimens for HCV, though telaprevir was withdrawn from the US market in 2014 due to safety and efficacy concerns compared to newer therapies[3]. The primary indication for both drugs is chronic hepatitis C infection.
