Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a fixed-dose combination drug containing **telmisartan**, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and **chlorthalidone**, a thiazide-like diuretic. **Telmisartan** works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. **Chlorthalidone** increases urinary excretion of sodium and chloride, leading to decreased fluid volume and blood pressure. The combination is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, particularly in patients not controlled with monotherapy, and is also used in chronic kidney disease and diabetic nephropathy. Typical oral formulations are used in clinical practice. Clinical studies demonstrate efficacy in lowering blood pressure in patients uncontrolled by either agent alone or combinations with hydrochlorothiazide[1][2][4].
