Overview
Telmisartan + ramipril is a fixed-dose combination of two antihypertensive agents used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the type 1 angiotensin II receptor in vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, thereby reducing vasoconstriction and aldosterone-mediated volume expansion. The combination targets two different points in the renin–angiotensin system, providing additive or synergistic effects on lowering blood pressure and improving endothelial function. This combination has been studied for its efficacy in high-risk cardiovascular patients, including those with atherosclerosis or diabetes with end-organ damage[1][2][3][4][5].
