Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is not a fixed-dose combination product but represents two separate drugs that were studied together for potential drug-drug interactions. Tenapanor is an inhibitor of gastrointestinal Na+/H+ exchanger NHE3 being evaluated for constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome and hyperphosphataemia in chronic kidney disease patients on dialysis. Cefadroxil is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. A phase 1 study found that tenapanor does not have a clinically relevant impact on the activity of the H+-coupled peptide transporter PepT1, which transports cefadroxil.
