Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Teneligliptin + sulfonylurea is a fixed-dose oral combination therapy used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in adults. This combination leverages two distinct mechanisms to improve glycemic control. Teneligliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP, leading to increased insulin secretion and decreased glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner[1][6]. Sulfonylureas are insulin secretagogues that stimulate pancreatic beta cells to release insulin regardless of blood glucose levels. The combined use aims to achieve better glycemic control than either agent alone but may increase the risk of hypoglycemia compared with DPP-4 inhibitor monotherapy[4]. Teneligliptin was developed by Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma and is marketed under various brand names globally[5]. The primary indication for this combination is type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled by diet, exercise, or monotherapy.
