teniposide + cisplatin

This drug is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of teniposide (also known as VM26) and cisplatin. Teniposide is a semisynthetic derivative of podophyllotoxin that acts as a topoisomerase II inhibitor, interfering with DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death. Cisplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent that forms DNA crosslinks, causing apoptosis in cancer cells. The combination has been studied primarily for treatment of advanced transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Clinical studies have shown response rates but no clear superiority over single-agent cisplatin in some settings. The drugs are administered intravenously in cycles every three weeks or according to specific protocols.
