Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination regimen used for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of hepatitis B virus (HBV). Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is an antiviral medication that inhibits HBV DNA polymerase, reducing viral load in pregnant women. Hepatitis B vaccine provides active immunization to infants, stimulating their immune system to produce antibodies against HBV. Hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG) provides immediate passive immunity by supplying preformed antibodies to neutralize the virus at birth. The combination is highly effective in preventing vertical transmission of HBV when administered according to recommended protocols[6][7][8].
