Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This refers to the multimodal analgesia and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) prophylaxis protocol used as the control (Group C) in a prospective observational study conducted by Ondokuz Mayıs University (NCT05752734). The protocol consists of a combination of tenoxicam, tramadol, morphine, paracetamol, and ondansetron. It was evaluated in obese patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy to compare its efficacy against a group receiving preoperative dexamethasone. The regimen includes intraoperative non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opioids, and postoperative analgesics, alongside standard antiemetic prophylaxis. Tenoxicam and paracetamol provide anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects through cyclooxygenase inhibition; tramadol and morphine act as mu-opioid receptor agonists; and ondansetron serves as a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist to prevent postoperative nausea and vomiting.
