Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Terazosin + hydrochlorothiazide is a combination of two antihypertensive agents used to manage high blood pressure. Terazosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker that relaxes smooth muscle in blood vessels, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral vascular resistance. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that reduces blood volume by increasing renal excretion of sodium and water, thereby lowering blood pressure. The combination provides additive or synergistic effects for the treatment of hypertension, especially when monotherapy with either agent is insufficient. This combination may also attenuate some adverse metabolic effects associated with thiazide diuretics[1][3][8].
