Terazosin + nifedipine is a combination of two small molecule antihypertensive agents. Terazosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist that relaxes smooth muscle in blood vessels and the prostate, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Nifedipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. This combination has been studied for its efficacy in facilitating stone passage after transurethral ureteroscopic lithotripsy for distal ureteral stones, where it was found to be safe and effective, improving stone discharge rates, reducing pain scores, and enhancing quality of life postoperatively[1][2][3]. Both drugs are also individually indicated for hypertension.
