Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Terconazole + metronidazole is a fixed-dose combination drug under development for the treatment of vaginal infections. Terconazole is a triazole antifungal agent that inhibits ergosterol synthesis by blocking lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity and function, leading to inhibition of fungal growth. Metronidazole is an antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites; it works by entering microbial cells and generating free radicals that damage DNA, resulting in cell death. The combination targets both fungal (yeast) and bacterial pathogens commonly implicated in vaginal infections[1][5][7][8].
