IP Biotech's Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) vaccine is a bivalent inactivated vaccine designed to provide active immunity against tetanus and diphtheria. It is primarily utilized as a booster dose for adolescents and adults to maintain protective antibody levels. The vaccine formulation consists of purified tetanus and diphtheria toxoids—toxins that have been chemically modified to eliminate toxicity while preserving their ability to elicit an immune response. Upon administration, the host's immune system recognizes these toxoids and produces specific antitoxins. These antibodies are capable of neutralizing the potent exotoxins produced by Clostridium tetani and Corynebacterium diphtheriae during infection, thereby preventing the severe clinical complications associated with these pathogens, such as muscle spasms and respiratory obstruction.
