Orlicaine Gel is a compounded topical anesthetic formulation developed by Bennett Pharmaceuticals. It consists of a combination of two local anesthetics, tetracaine and bupivacaine, along with the vasoconstrictor phenylephrine. Tetracaine and bupivacaine function by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, thereby inhibiting nerve conduction and providing local anesthesia. Phenylephrine acts as an alpha-1 adrenergic agonist, causing local vasoconstriction which helps to prolong the anesthetic effect and reduce systemic absorption. It is primarily intended for topical anesthesia.
