Overview

A combination of two barbiturate drugs (thiopental and pentobarbital) that produces synergistic central nervous system depression. It is used primarily in veterinary medicine and historically in human medicine. This combination is particularly effective for inducing anesthesia and controlling intracranial pressure. The typical formulation contains 750 mg of sodium thiopental and 250 mg of sodium pentobarbital per gram of powder, which is diluted with sterile water for injection. This combination is primarily used as an anesthetic for intravenous administration to dogs and cats during short to moderately long surgical procedures.
