THR-317 is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody developed by ThromboGenics (now Oxurion) for the treatment of retinal vascular diseases, specifically diabetic macular edema (DME). The antibody is designed to bind to the receptor-binding site of human placental growth factor (PlGF), a member of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family that is found at elevated levels in patients with diabetes. By neutralizing PlGF, THR-317 aims to reduce vascular permeability, inflammation, and pathological angiogenesis in the retina. It is administered via intravitreal injection and has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials as both a standalone therapy and in combination with anti-VEGF agents such as ranibizumab to address patients who respond sub-optimally to standard VEGF inhibition.
