Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of thrombopoietin (TPO), interleukin-11 (IL-11), and heparin. This combination is primarily used to stimulate megakaryopoiesis and platelet production. Heparin significantly enhances the stimulating effects of TPO and IL-11 on megakaryocyte development and platelet production. The synergistic effect between heparin and IL-11 involves enhancement of IL-11-induced STAT3 activation through up-regulation of the MAPK pathway. This combination has been studied for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia and for ex vivo expansion of megakaryocyte progenitors.
