Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy composed of **thymosin alpha 1**, **peginterferon alfa-2a**, and **ribavirin**. Thymosin alpha 1 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to a fragment of thymosin fraction 5 with immunomodulatory properties, enhancing T-cell differentiation and modulating immune responses. Peginterferon alfa-2a is a pegylated recombinant interferon alpha-2a with antiviral and immunomodulatory effects, primarily by induction of interferon-stimulated genes leading to inhibition of viral replication. Ribavirin is a nucleoside analogue antiviral agent that interferes with viral RNA synthesis and replication. The combination is used investigationally in chronic hepatitis C to improve viral clearance by synergistically boosting both innate and adaptive immune mechanisms and direct antiviral effects, though the specific triple combination remains under investigation compared to wider use of the peginterferon alfa-2a plus ribavirin dual regimen.
