Overview

This is a drug interaction between ticagrelor, a P2Y12 platelet inhibitor used for acute coronary syndrome, and ritonavir, an HIV protease inhibitor. When coadministered, ritonavir significantly inhibits the metabolism of ticagrelor through CYP3A4 inhibition, increasing ticagrelor exposure while reducing formation of its active metabolite. This interaction requires approximately 75% reduction in ticagrelor dosage to maintain similar pharmacokinetic and antiplatelet effects as ticagrelor alone.
