Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Clatie is a combination antibiotic containing the extended-spectrum carboxypenicillin ticarcillin and the beta-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid. Ticarcillin works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and causing cell lysis. Clavulanic acid acts as a suicide inhibitor of bacterial beta-lactamases, protecting ticarcillin from enzymatic degradation and restoring its activity against beta-lactamase-producing resistant pathogens. Formulated as a 3.1 g injection (comprising 3 g ticarcillin and 0.1 g clavulanic acid), it is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections, including lower respiratory tract infections, bone and joint infections, skin and skin structure infections, complicated urinary tract infections, and septicemia.
