ticarcillin + clavulanic acid (GSK)

Triclav is a combination antibiotic consisting of ticarcillin, a semi-synthetic penicillin, and clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Ticarcillin acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), while clavulanic acid irreversibly binds to and inactivates beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria, thereby extending the spectrum of ticarcillin to include many beta-lactamase-producing organisms. It is primarily used for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria, including septicemia, lower respiratory tract infections, and intra-abdominal infections. In the Philippines, it is distributed by The Cathay Drug Company.
