Overview

Encepur Kinder is an inactivated viral vaccine indicated for active immunization against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in children aged 1 to 11 years. Developed originally by Chiron Behring (later Novartis, now GSK), the vaccine utilizes the K23 strain of the European TBE virus subtype, which is grown in primary chick embryo cell cultures, purified, and inactivated with formaldehyde. It is formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant and is notable for being free of protein-derived stabilizers such as human serum albumin, reducing the risk of associated allergic reactions. The pediatric dose is 0.25 mL, exactly half of the adult dose, and is administered via intramuscular injection. It supports both conventional and accelerated (rapid) immunization schedules to provide protective antibody titers against the flavivirus transmitted primarily by *Ixodes ricinus* ticks.
