Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tiletamine + zolazepam is a fixed 1:1 combination of the dissociative anesthetic tiletamine hydrochloride, an arylaminocycloalkanone N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, and the benzodiazepine tranquilizer zolazepam hydrochloride, used as a nonnarcotic, nonbarbiturate injectable anesthetic in veterinary medicine, primarily for dogs and cats.[3][6] The combination produces rapid-onset dissociative anesthesia with profound analgesia, maintenance of pharyngeal-laryngeal reflexes, and generally good muscle relaxation attributable to zolazepam, while mitigating tiletamine-induced convulsions and rigidity and zolazepam-associated belligerence observed when the components are used alone.[1][6] It is administered intramuscularly for restraint and minor procedures or intravenously for induction prior to maintenance with inhalant anesthetics, and has also been studied or used in other species such as sheep and laboratory animals.[2][5][6]
