Overview

TissueGene-C (TG-C) is a first-in-class cell and gene therapy developed for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. It consists of a mixture of human allogeneic chondrocytes and irradiated cells engineered to overexpress transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1). Administered as a single intra-articular injection, TG-C aims to provide pain relief, improve joint function, and slow or reverse cartilage destruction by creating an anti-inflammatory microenvironment dominated by M2 macrophages. This pro-anabolic environment supports cartilage regeneration and may delay or reduce the need for surgical intervention. Clinical trials have demonstrated long-term improvements in pain and function lasting up to two years[2][5][6].
