Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TK-042 is a transdermal patch formulation of donepezil, a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, developed by Teikoku Seiyaku in collaboration with Eisai. Approved in Japan under the brand name Aricept Tape, it is indicated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The transdermal delivery system is designed to provide stable plasma concentrations of donepezil over a 24-hour period, offering an alternative to oral administration. This formulation is particularly beneficial for patients who have difficulty swallowing or for whom oral adherence is a challenge, while also potentially mitigating gastrointestinal side effects associated with the peak plasma levels of oral donepezil.
