This is a combination of two active substances: TLQP-21, a 21-amino acid peptide derived from the VGF protein (spanning residues 556-576), and N-acetylcysteine (NAC), an antioxidant compound. TLQP-21 is a multifunctional neuropeptide that acts as a Complement 3a receptor (C3aR1) agonist[4][5]. The peptide increases energy expenditure, promotes lipolysis in adipose tissue, prevents diet-induced obesity, and has neuroprotective properties[1][2][3]. It activates G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathways, leading to phospholipase C beta (PLCβ) activation, intracellular calcium mobilization, and downstream effects including ERK1/2 and AKT phosphorylation[5]. TLQP-21 increases sympathetic nervous system activity, upregulates β3-adrenergic receptors and PPAR-δ in white adipose tissue, and enhances energy expenditure through fatty acid oxidation and energy uncoupling[1][3]. N-acetylcysteine is an antioxidant that has been developed as a capping agent for gold nanocages containing TLQP-21 for potential neuroprotective applications[6][7]. The combination has been investigated in nanoformulations for metabolic and neurological applications.
