Tobramycin + dexamethasone is a fixed-dose combination medication used primarily in ophthalmology. It combines tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding irreversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, with dexamethasone, a potent synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation by inhibiting phospholipase A2 and reducing the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. This combination is indicated for steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions where there is either an existing superficial bacterial infection or a risk of such infection.
