Tocilizumab is a monoclonal antibody that acts as an interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor antagonist. Tocilizumab is used for the treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis, giant cell arteritis (often in combination with glucocorticoids), systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD), polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (PJIA), systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA), cytokine release syndrome (CRS), and COVID-19 in hospitalized patients requiring supplemental oxygen or mechanical ventilation. Glucocorticoids are synthetic steroid hormones that modulate inflammation by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor and altering gene transcription; they are commonly used as immunosuppressive agents across a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases[1][2][5].
