tolterodine + pilocarpine

THVD-201 is a fixed-dose combination therapy consisting of tolterodine, a muscarinic receptor antagonist, and pilocarpine, a muscarinic receptor agonist. Developed by SK Chemicals (originally by Theravance Biopharma), it is intended for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB). The combination is designed to address the common side effect of dry mouth (xerostomia) associated with antimuscarinic OAB treatments. While tolterodine works to reduce bladder overactivity by blocking muscarinic receptors in the detrusor muscle, pilocarpine acts as a secretagogue to stimulate salivary flow, thereby improving the tolerability profile of the treatment without compromising its efficacy. The drug is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials to evaluate its safety and efficacy compared to tolterodine monotherapy.
