Overview
Topiramate is an antiepileptic drug used to prevent seizures and migraines. Its mechanism of action involves reducing neuronal hyperexcitability, likely through modulation of voltage-gated sodium channels, enhancement of GABA activity, antagonism at AMPA/kainate glutamate receptors, and inhibition of carbonic anhydrase. Propranolol is a non-selective beta blocker used for hypertension, arrhythmias, angina pectoris, essential tremor, migraine prevention, and anxiety. It works by blocking β-adrenergic receptors in the heart and other tissues. Both drugs are sometimes combined for migraine prevention when monotherapy is insufficient[1][3][4][5][6][8].
