Toripalimab (JS001) is a humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody directed against the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor. It functions as an immune checkpoint inhibitor by blocking the interaction between PD-1 and its ligands (PD-L1 and PD-L2), thereby restoring T-cell mediated anti-tumor immunity. In a Phase II clinical trial (NCT04973904) conducted at Peking Union Medical College Hospital, toripalimab is being evaluated in combination with bevacizumab (an anti-VEGF monoclonal antibody) and chemotherapy (paclitaxel and cisplatin or carboplatin) for the first-line treatment of patients with recurrent, refractory, or metastatic cervical cancer. This multi-component regimen combines immunotherapy, anti-angiogenesis, and cytotoxic chemotherapy to improve objective response rates and survival outcomes in advanced cervical cancer patients.
