tozinameran + quadrivalent influenza vaccine refers to the co-administration or combination of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 mRNA vaccine (tozinameran) and a quadrivalent influenza vaccine (QIV). This combination is designed to provide simultaneous protection against SARS-CoV-2 and four seasonal influenza strains (typically two Influenza A subtypes and two Influenza B lineages). Clinical studies, such as the ComFluCOV trial, have demonstrated that the simultaneous administration of these vaccines is safe and maintains an effective immune response for both pathogens. While tozinameran utilizes nucleoside-modified messenger RNA (modRNA) to induce an immune response against the viral spike protein, the quadrivalent influenza vaccine component typically consists of inactivated virus, split-virion, or recombinant hemagglutinin proteins. Pfizer and BioNTech are also developing a single-vial mRNA-based combination vaccine candidate that incorporates both components into a single injection, which is currently in Phase 3 clinical development.
