TP-271 + ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is a combination drug consisting of TP-271, a novel fully synthetic fluorocycline antibiotic of the tetracycline class, and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, a metal chelating agent. TP-271 acts as a potent inhibitor of bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and interfering with the access of aminoacyl-tRNA, thereby preventing peptide chain elongation. It demonstrates strong activity against a broad range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative respiratory pathogens, including multidrug-resistant strains. TP-271 has shown efficacy in animal models when administered both intravenously and orally and is minimally affected by common tetracycline resistance determinants. Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a metal chelator, typically included in formulations to enhance activity or stability by binding divalent metal ions, although its specific role in combination with TP-271 is not established in the public literature.
