Overview

Tranexamic acid + bacitracin is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents with distinct mechanisms of action. Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic agent that competitively and reversibly inhibits the activation of plasminogen to plasmin, thereby preventing the breakdown of fibrin clots and reducing or preventing hemorrhagic episodes[4][8]. Bacitracin is a cyclic polypeptide antibiotic that interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to C55-isoprenyl pyrophosphate, inhibiting its dephosphorylation, which prevents peptidoglycan synthesis in bacteria[1][6]. This combination may be used for local hemostasis and infection prevention in wound care settings.
