Trans sodium crocetinate (TSC) is a first-in-class small molecule oxygen diffusion-enhancing compound developed by Diffusion Pharmaceuticals. It is designed to increase the delivery of oxygen to hypoxic (oxygen-deprived) tissues by enhancing the diffusion of oxygen through blood plasma. In the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), TSC is used as a radiosensitizer to improve the effectiveness of radiation therapy, as hypoxic tumor cells are typically resistant to radiation. The drug is administered intravenously in combination with the standard of care (SOC), which consists of temozolomide chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This combination was evaluated in the Phase 3 INTACT registration trial specifically for patients with newly diagnosed, inoperable (biopsy-only) glioblastoma.
