Overview

Jatrosom N is a combination pharmaceutical product containing **tranylcypromine**, a non-selective and irreversible monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), and **trifluoperazine**, a typical antipsychotic of the phenothiazine class. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, particularly in cases that are treatment-resistant or accompanied by anxiety or agitation. Tranylcypromine works by inhibiting the breakdown of monoamine neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin, thereby increasing their synaptic concentrations. Trifluoperazine acts as an antagonist at dopamine D2 receptors, providing anxiolytic and antipsychotic effects that can mitigate the agitation sometimes associated with MAOI therapy. The combination has been in clinical use since the early 1960s and is currently marketed in Germany by Aristo Pharma GmbH.
