Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting HER2 receptors, and vinflunine, a microtubule inhibitor of the vinca alkaloid class. This combination has been studied primarily for the treatment of HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer. Trastuzumab binds to the HER2 receptor, inhibiting tumor cell growth and proliferation in HER2-overexpressing cancers, while vinflunine inhibits tubulin polymerization, arresting cell proliferation and leading to apoptotic death. Vinflunine also demonstrates anti-angiogenic and vascular disrupting activities.
