travoprost + timolol (Alcon Inc.)

Travoprost + timolol (marketed under the brand name DuoTrav) is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution developed by Alcon Research, Ltd. for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It contains two active ingredients: travoprost (0.004%), a prostaglandin F2-alpha (FP receptor) agonist, and timolol (0.5%), a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker. The combination utilizes complementary mechanisms to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP); travoprost increases uveoscleral outflow, while timolol decreases the production of aqueous humor. Administered once daily, it has been evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials comparing its efficacy and safety to other combination therapies like dorzolamide/timolol (Cosopt). BAC-free (benzalkonium chloride-free) formulations have also been developed to improve ocular surface tolerability.
