Overview

**Trehalose + hyaluronic acid + carbomer** is a preservative-free, high-viscosity topical ophthalmic artificial-tear formulation marketed as **Thealoz Duo Gel** and **Thealoz Gel** by Laboratoires Théa. It combines trehalose, an osmoprotective disaccharide that helps protect ocular-surface cells from desiccation and oxidative stress; sodium hyaluronate, a lubricating and water-retaining polymer; and carbomer, a mucoadhesive viscosity-enhancing polymer that prolongs ocular-surface residence. The gel is used for dry eye disease and ocular-surface discomfort, including tear-film instability and postoperative ocular irritation after cataract phacoemulsification. Clinical studies reported improvements in tear break-up time, ocular-surface staining, symptoms, and treatment satisfaction, with lower daily instillation frequency than less-viscous trehalose/hyaluronate drops.
