Overview

Trehalose + N-acetyl-aspartyl-glutamate (NAAGA) is a preservative-free ophthalmic combination used for the treatment of dry eye disease and ocular surface disorders. Trehalose, a disaccharide, acts as a cytoprotectant and osmoprotectant, stabilizing cell membranes and proteins against desiccation and osmotic stress. NAAGA (N-acetylaspartylglutamic acid) provides anti-inflammatory properties and protects the ocular surface. This combination is often incorporated into multi-ingredient artificial tear formulations, such as those developed by Théa Pharmaceuticals, to manage symptoms in patients with dry eye or those experiencing ocular surface side effects from other topical therapies, such as prostaglandin analogs for glaucoma.
