Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Thealoz Duo UD is a preservative-free ophthalmic solution indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe dry eye syndrome. It is a combination product containing trehalose (3%) and sodium hyaluronate (0.15%). Trehalose is a natural disaccharide that acts as a bioprotectant, stabilizing cell membranes and proteins against dehydration and osmotic stress, which are hallmark features of dry eye disease. Sodium hyaluronate is a high-molecular-weight polysaccharide that serves as a lubricant and hydrating agent, improving tear film stability and ocular surface hydration. The "UD" (Unit Dose) designation refers to its packaging in single-use containers, which allows for a formulation free of preservatives that can otherwise cause irritation or ocular surface damage in sensitive patients or those requiring frequent dosing.
