Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Triamcinolone + nepafenac is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in ophthalmology. Triamcinolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory properties, often administered via intravitreal injection to reduce inflammation and edema in the posterior segment of the eye. Nepafenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) formulated as an ophthalmic suspension; it acts as a prodrug that is converted by intraocular hydrolases to amfenac, which inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes and reduces prostaglandin synthesis, thereby decreasing ocular pain and inflammation. This combination may be considered for conditions such as cystoid macular edema or post-surgical inflammation where both steroidal and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory effects are desired[1][2][3]. However, clinical studies have not consistently shown added benefit from combining these agents compared to monotherapy[1].
