Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Triamcinolone + pirfenidone is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents. Triamcinolone is a synthetic corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, used to treat various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as allergic states, dermatologic diseases, endocrine disorders, gastrointestinal diseases, hematologic disorders, neoplastic diseases, nervous system disorders (including multiple sclerosis), ophthalmic diseases, renal and respiratory diseases[3][5]. Pirfenidone is an antifibrotic small molecule approved for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). It exerts its effects by reducing fibroblast proliferation and inhibiting the production of fibrogenic mediators such as transforming growth factor beta; it also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties[1][2][6][8]. The combination may be considered in clinical or research settings where both anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic actions are desired.
