This therapeutic combination consists of two corticosteroids, triamcinolone acetonide and dexamethasone, and the local anesthetic bupivacaine. It was studied by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, as a comparator to platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for the treatment of partial thickness rotator cuff tears. Triamcinolone acetonide is a synthetic glucocorticoid used for its intermediate-acting anti-inflammatory effects, while dexamethasone provides potent, long-acting corticosteroid activity. Bupivacaine is included to provide immediate regional anesthesia. The combination is administered via ultrasound-guided injection into the glenohumeral joint to alleviate pain and reduce inflammation associated with tendon injury.
