Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a **combination topical drug** comprised of three active ingredients: - **Triamcinolone acetonide**: a synthetic corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, itching, and swelling by inhibiting the production of inflammatory mediators.(*Mechanism*: binds to glucocorticoid receptor, modulating transcription and suppressing pro-inflammatory genes) - **Neomycin sulfate**: an aminoglycoside antibiotic that binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to bacterial cell death. - **Gramicidin**: a peptide antibiotic that increases bacterial cell membrane permeability, leading to cell death. This drug is used primarily for **topical treatment of skin or ear infections** that involve or may involve inflammation and bacterial infection. It may be used in corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, otitis externa, or external ear infections. It is NOT for systemic use(*inhalation or ingestion*), and should not be used if there is a perforated eardrum or certain viral/fungal infections. Extended use can cause sensitization or toxicity (e.g., ototoxicity with neomycin)[1][4][6][8].
