Triamcinolone hexacetonide + hyaluronic acid is a combination drug formulated as a single intra-articular injection for the treatment of pain associated with osteoarthritis (OA), particularly in the knee. The product most commonly known under the brand name Cingal consists of chemically cross-linked sodium hyaluronate (a form of hyaluronic acid) combined with triamcinolone hexacetonide (a long-acting synthetic corticosteroid). Hyaluronic acid acts as a viscosupplement to restore synovial fluid viscosity and provide lubrication and cushioning within the joint. Triamcinolone hexacetonide is a potent glucocorticoid receptor agonist that exerts anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing inflammatory mediators in the joint. This dual mechanism aims to provide both rapid pain relief from inflammation and longer-term improvement in joint function through enhanced lubrication[2][3][8]. Developed by Anika Therapeutics, this combination is indicated for patients with osteoarthritis who have not responded adequately to other conservative treatments.
