tributyrin (RedoxBox)

TauBiotic is a nutraceutical formulation of tributyrin, a triglyceride-form prodrug of the short-chain fatty acid butyrate. Developed by RedoxBox and investigated in clinical trials by Amsterdam UMC, it is designed as an enteric-coated soft-gel capsule to bypass gastric acid and deliver butyrate directly to the colon via pancreatic lipase cleavage. Its primary therapeutic focus is the gut-brain axis, where butyrate supports intestinal barrier integrity and exerts immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. It is currently being evaluated as an adjunctive treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD) to improve depressive symptoms and affect by modulating the gut microbiota and systemic inflammatory pathways.
