Overview

CORM-2 (tricarbonyldichlororuthenium(II) dimer) is a small molecule pro-drug that acts as a carbon monoxide (CO)-releasing molecule. It is used in research to deliver controlled amounts of CO to biological systems. CORM-2 exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cytoprotective effects in various experimental models. Its mechanism of action involves the release of CO, which modulates inflammation by inhibiting cytokine production and oxidative stress responses. CORM-2 has demonstrated protective effects against acute pancreatitis, cisplatin-induced ototoxicity, skin inflammation, and bacterial biofilm formation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa[1][3][4][5][6]. It is not approved for clinical use but is widely used as a tool compound in preclinical studies.
