Overview

This is a combination drug consisting of trimebutine maleate, a gastrointestinal motility modulator, and Clostridium butyricum, a probiotic bacterium. Trimebutine maleate acts as a non-competitive spasmolytic agent with mild opioid receptor affinity and significant anti-serotonin activity. It regulates gastrointestinal motility by exerting both stimulatory and inhibitory effects on intestinal smooth muscle, making it effective for treating symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), including abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, and constipation[2][4][5]. Clostridium butyricum is an anaerobic gram-positive bacillus used as a probiotic to restore gut flora balance. It produces butyrate—a short-chain fatty acid essential for colon health—supports the integrity of the gut barrier, inhibits pathogenic bacteria growth through bacteriocin production, enhances nutrient absorption, and modulates immune responses[6][8]. The combination targets both functional dysregulation (via trimebutine) and microbiota imbalance (via C. butyricum), providing comprehensive management for gastrointestinal disorders such as IBS-D (diarrhea-predominant IBS)[1].
