The "Double trigger" protocol, as studied by Bedaya Hospital, is a pharmacological combination used in assisted reproductive technology (ART) to induce final oocyte maturation in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). This specific regimen involves the co-administration of a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, specifically triptorelin, and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). In the Bedaya Hospital clinical trial, triptorelin (0.2 mg) is administered 40 hours prior to ovum pick-up, followed by hCG (10,000 IU) 34 hours prior to the procedure. This dual approach is designed to mimic the natural mid-cycle surge of both luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). While hCG primarily provides LH-like activity to trigger maturation, the addition of a GnRH agonist induces an endogenous surge of both LH and FSH, which is hypothesized to improve oocyte yield, maturity, and quality, particularly in normoresponder patients.
