Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TroVax + interleukin-2 is a combination immunotherapy composed of the cancer vaccine TroVax (an engineered modified vaccinia Ankara virus expressing the tumor-associated antigen 5T4) and interleukin-2 (IL-2, a recombinant cytokine). TroVax stimulates the immune system, inducing both humoral and cellular immune responses against cells expressing the 5T4 oncofetal antigen, which is present on various solid tumors. Interleukin-2 promotes the proliferation and activation of T cells, thereby potentiating immune responses. The combination has been investigated for potential additive or synergistic effects in promoting anti-tumor immunity, particularly in metastatic renal cell carcinoma and metastatic colorectal cancer. Clinical studies report induced 5T4-specific antibody and T-cell responses with observed improved survival in some patient cohorts, and combination with IL-2 may be more effective than either agent alone for certain patients[3].
